Sciatica

Bent over back pain

This debilitating condition is the result of compression on the major sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve originates in the low back and travels down each leg, stimulating sensation and muscle movement. In most cases, sciatica is the result of an injury that has created a misalignment in the spine(subluxation). The misalignment applies direct compression on the sciatic nerve causing sciatica. In addition, the misalignment can also trigger a herniated disc, once the disc starts protruding it causes compression on the sciatic nerve.

Symptoms of sciatica

There are a variety of symptoms associated with sciatica,

all of which begin slowly and become more severe when left untreated.

  • Burning pain from your lower (lumbar) spine down the back of your legs
  • Mild ache, sharp, burning, excruciating pain
  • Exacerbated pain with sudden movements, for instance, coughing or sneezing
  • Numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness in the affected leg or foot, in other words, “pins and needles”

Causes of sciatica

  • A herniated disk
  • A subluxation-misalignment of the bones in the spine
  • In rare cases, disease, for instance, diabetes or a tumor.

We Can Help!

Often sciatica is the result of a misalignment in the spine. Our doctors will diagnose and treat the cause of your sciatica by removing the subluxations-misalignments in the lumbar spine and pelvis, thereby removing the compression of the sciatic nerve. Chiropractic care is a safe, effective, and above all, a drug-free alternative for the treatment of sciatica.

Our office policy is we will not treat anyone for more than two weeks unless they are experiencing significant results. We will always be honest with you about your condition therefore, if you are not improving we will guide you to a more appropriate physician for your condition.
